As we take the covers of our grills and before we do our first cook of the season. It is a good idea to make sure our grill still works the way we want it to. First is to make sure we have enough fuel, unless your grill is directly connected to a gas line. Next is make sure, as with each time before you light the grill, is to secure the fuel connections. Follow lighting instructions, and light the grill. Check all burners for clogged holes. If burners are clogged you will have uneven cooking and flair ups, which are potentially dangerous. There should be flames coming out of all the holes. If not, you want to turn off the grill. Wait till it cools off, and take the burners apart to clean them. Follow manufacturer’s guide to dismantle and clean the burners. Although, a metal hanger will usually work well to clear out the holes in the burners.

Now you have all your burners clean, put the grill back together. Light grill again and turn to high, close lid and wait till it gets hot. If you put your grill away clean, the grates should still be clean. Just give them a brushing to scrape off anything left on them. Now you are ready to cook on your grill!

Here is how to keeping your grill clean through the grilling season. One is don’t get it dirty! LOL But it is inevitable that it will get dirty. The other is HEAT. It is always easier to clean when hot. And if you clean after you finished cooking, your grill will always be clean and ready to go. And you will save time and energy, both yours and fuel. So like before, when you are finished cooking , turn on high , close the lid and let get hot. When hot, be careful opening the lid, brush off anything still left on the grates. Use a good steel brush with a long handle. To clean the outside, use a damp cloth towel and wipe any debris around your grill. DO NOT try to clean the lid of the grill with a damp cloth when hot. Let the grill cool a little before wiping it down. Also, do not put your cover back on your grill while still hot.
